Vasily’s Paintings
Vasily Reshchuk current paintings are of the area close to his home in Vladivostok created with passion and enthusiasm using a combination of watercolor, gouache, tempera, and pastel. His style tends toward the abstract and his sense of color, light and shadow make the paintings move with the energy of life. This exhibit covers a broad time span from the 1980’s to 2007. During much of this time Vasily painted as time allowed. Not being “officially recognized” by the Soviet government as a painter, Vasily was forced to scavenge for art materials. Some of his earlier paintings are done on spliced together papers; evidence of his strong will to paint. Being an “independent” artist, he painted what called out to him, uncensored and free. |
