Words from Vasily
2004 The paintings I present are the views of a neighborhood on the edge of Vladivostok near the house where I live. The quiet beauty of the old quarters of Vladivostok their artistic beauty the sadness of abandoned houses, burned down sheds, vegetable gardens overtaken by weeds. Their unique charm in various seasons of the year. Both Russian and American cities and towns have neighborhoods with these qualities. Such old neighborhoods are rich with a calm and a silence that are all too lacking in this century, yet so necessary for our souls. Soon, all of this will disappear. The city of Vladivostok is growing and the old neighborhoods are yielding to new developments. I prefer to paint outside and the nature of my illness seriously limits my outings. As a result, the subjects of my paintings are the landscapes and scenes immediately surrounding my home that I call fleeting nature. I am hurrying as best I can to capture and preserve this world in true and honest images through my paintings. 2006 Time is fleeting, and with each year I look at the surrounding world with more depth and in greater detail; the eternal beauty and the wisdom of nature elicits a deep feeling in my heart. And even though there are no human beings in my paintings, I invite you to become the character of the painting and to share with me my endless amazement and admiration for this world. |
