Join us for a night of classical music on April 22nd! Fountainhead Gallery is proud to present August Baik (Concert Pianist) and Eric Schindler (Cellist) as they perform classical repertoire from Beethoven, Bach, and Rachmaninov.
Born in Seattle, Washington, August Baik studies piano with Nino Merabishvili. He had his debut concerto performance at age 13 with the Virtuosi Bruneses Orchestra in Perugia, Italy. He has also performed with the Cascade Symphony Orchestra and Bellevue Symphony. Among his recent achievements: selected as a Fellow with From The Top, winning the King FM Young Artist Awards, 2 time gold medalist and “best in competition” of the Pacific NW Piano Competition, Golden Key of Vienna Music Festival in Austria, Russian Chamber Music Competition, Great Masters International Piano Competition and Chopin Foundation Northwest Council Competition. August placed 2nd in the International Moscow Music Competition and was a finalist in the Nordic International Piano Competition. August has been awarded 1st place on 3 different occasions at the Seattle Bach Festival.
Additionally, August is a self-taught composer who has been selected twice for the Seattle Symphony Merriman-Ross Family Young Composers Workshop. His orchestra piece, Chuseok Overture will have its world premiere by the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall on May 18, 2023.
Eric Schindler, is an exciting upcoming cellist in the Seattle area. Eric developed a love for the cello at the age of four, studying first with Dr. Shiang-Yin Lee of the Pacific Northwest School of Music, and then with Grace Gu of the Grace Music Studio. At age 11, he started studying with Dr. Kevin Krentz, and continues to study with the Krentz Cello Studio today. He has also studied chamber music with Mara Gearman, Assistant Principal violist with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Simon James, retired Concertmaster with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, and Joseph Gottesman, Director of the Seattle Youth Symphony Conservatory of Music Chamber Music Studies. In 2019, he served as both Principal Cello for the Seattle Youth Symphony’s Junior Symphony and the Washington All-State Symphony Orchestra in 2020, as well as participating in the All-Northwest Orchestra in 2021. Today, he is Principal Cello of the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra.
In 2022, Eric was awarded First Place at the final Concerto Playoff Concert for the Performing Arts Festival of the Eastside (PAFE), was awarded the PAFE Frances Walton Artist Award for Cello/Bass, and also won First Place at WMEA State Solo Ensemble Contest for cello. In May of 2022, he was a finalist for the KING FM Young Artist Award, and also in November 2022 for the NPR show “From The Top.” Eric was selected as both the Washington State and Northwest Division Finalist for the Music Teachers National Association’s Senior Strings music competition. In 2023 he was a finalist for the Seattle Symphony Young Artist award.
