Lantz Bio

Scott Lantz began selling paintings at Pike Place Market in 2003. Essentially a self-taught artist, Scott draws inspiration not from trends in contemporary painting but rather from greats such as Vermeer, Degas, and Hopper. Working with acrylic paint on Masonite panel, Scott is able to capture vivid colors and the full range of light and dark value. He often paints naturalistic landscapes, both urban and natural, of modern-day Seattle and the European cities to which he travels. Scott enjoys creating “a kind of idealized realism” through which each painting acts as a vignette of everyday life, often populated by figures which add movement, life, and occasionally a suggestion of a story. Through the stylization of his paintings, Scott aims to evoke the feeling and visual energy of these places.
