Stacy Milrany was born in Portland, Oregon. Upon graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, she earned a Master of Science in Mass Communications/Advertising & Art Direction from Virginia Commonwealth University. Stacy then worked for twenty years as a Creative Director in advertising with a background in art direction.
Trained at NW Encaustic, Miller School of Art, Pratt, and Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, Stacy works in a variety of mediums and especially appreciates those which provide an inherent degree of surprise, like watercolor and monotype printing. She believes her style has probably developed from an appreciation of candor, color, storytelling, and absurdity. Most of her work is inspired by observations of ordinary daily life – sometimes the beautiful, sometimes the bitter, sometimes the mundane.
Stacy’s process often combines text, rich texture, pattern, and identifiable objects. She hopes that her work sheds light on the beauty of imperfection in ourselves, in each other, and in the world, encouraging people to reflect on their own experiences to remind us that we are all living this absurd, beautiful life together “as one handsome herd of crackpots.” Stacy currently lives and works in Seattle, Washington.
