Bobbie Mueller was born in Pacific County and has always lived in western Washington. As a little girl, she would draw horses on scrap paper that her father would bring home from his job as a school teacher and principal. Bobbie began taking studio art classes as electives throughout high school and college. In 1965, she married Rudolf (Rudi) Mueller, with whom she has three children. Rudi was a U.S. Army veteran who earned a law degree from the University of Washington, sparking a career in law which lasted 54 years.
During the 1970-80s, Bobbie studied watercolor with various Northwest artists and started showing her work in galleries, invitational and juried shows in Everett, Anacortes, Edmonds, Kirkland, and Seattle. She has taught classes for Everett and Skagit Valley community colleges, as well as in her home studio. Bobbie still lives on Camano Island.
Bobbie draws inspiration from her environment and from notable watercolorists such as Alvaro Castagnet, Eugen Chisnicean, and Ron Stocke. The landscapes she paints are often important places from her life and her memories of growing up. She loves the spontaneity and transparency of watercolor, particularly the way the pictures seem to paint themselves even after the brush and hand are removed. Bobbie’s ideal painting has clean paint, a light touch, good balance, and something unexpected.
